Lending a hand to our little Lambs

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

Mary may have had a little lamb, but Old Macdonald already has 11, and staff at Old MacDonald’s Farm have been giving our new arrivals a helping hand.

One of the Ewes (female sheep) has been finding it quite difficult to feed her Lamb. Therefore our dedicated team of staff have stepped in to give some support and lend a hand by doing the daily rounds of feeding, using a bottle and a specialized milk formula. The bottle fed Lamb, now named ‘Kevin’ according to staff, is growing healthier and stronger by the day.

The total number of Lambs so far this year at the farm has already reached 11. Visitors to the farm have been very surprised at the number of early spring babies we have had. However, previous years at the farm have also seen early arrivals, despite the cold weather. Some other spring babies include Piglets and Kids (baby Goats). With more on the way!

Old Macdonald’s Farm is an ideal place for school groups to get close to animals, farm and exotic, and to learn about the cycle of life and our early lambs give a superb backdrop upon which teachers can focus.

6th February, Teachers Go Free at Old Macdonald’s Farm

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Each year hundreds of school children visit our farm as part of organised outings and we always try to provide the best possible service to them. We aim in particular at Primary age children but welcome groups of all ages. We realise that 2011 is going to be a difficult year with budgets and so want to help to ensure that these all important opportunities to see farm animals and our more exotic creatures is not lost, and to discuss Bio Diversity and Climate Change, as well as to have a great day out! So we are trying to do more for schools than ever before.

School teachers, and their families, are always welcome to visit Old Macdonald’s Farm in Brentwood Free of Charge if they are considering a school visit. All they need do is contact us in advance on with details on their school and we will send out an invitation to attend.

That is why we have a special day for all teachers and families scheduled for February 6th when we will be launching our 2011 educational programme and this would be a great time for teachers to come and meet us and talk through the ideas they have for us and ways in which we can provide a better service.

So all teachers, even if they are not at this time planning a trip here, should contact us at once and let us know if they want to come on 6th February and help us find ways to provide a better service for local schools.

Access for all at Old Macdonald’s Farm

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Old Macdonald’s Farm was delighted to be recognised for our efforts in providing access for all in the Visit Essex Tourism Awards 2010 when we were the only outdoor attraction to be included in the final shortlist.

Providing access for those with special needs is a priority for us, and we are proud to have been rewarded for this.

Schools, groups and families with children or adults with special needs should contact us for more information and we will be delighted to tell them more about what we can provide, and above all to hear from them how we can improve because by listening to our customers we can innovate and ensure that we really do provide Access for All here in Brentwood.
